Dr. Alexis Zieve has always had a passion for working with animals, especially exotic species. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in January 2023 and completed her clinical year at LSU-VTH, where she gained hands-on experience with a variety of exotic patients. During her clinical training, she pursued multiple externships at exotic animal clinics, further deepening her expertise.
From a young age, she has enjoyed working with all animals. Her first introduction to exotic animals came through a summer camp that worked with rescued wildlife and exotic species. She attended the middle school and high school associated with this rescue facility, where she gained valuable knowledge in caring for sick and injured exotic animals. Here, she developed her passion for working with and educating others about exotic animals. She found it especially rewarding to give tours to schoolchildren, teaching them about these incredible creatures, and witnessing the positive impact education had on the lives of both the children and the animals.
After graduation, she completed an internship at Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital in Louisiana, where she worked with a diverse range of feathered, furred, and scaled patients. She particularly loves working with birds, reptiles, and mammals. She honed her medical and surgical skills and stayed on for another year as an associate to gain even more experience before returning home to California. She loves working with all exotic species but has a soft spot for mammals and small birds. She believes that client education and communication are key to ensuring the best possible care for exotic pets and is dedicated to providing owners with the knowledge and resources they need. She is passionate about preventative medicine, recognizing that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Dr. Zieve has a strong interest in integrative medicine, including laser therapy to help animals heal faster. She has an interest in mixing integrative medicine with standard medicine to achieve the best outcomes for her patients and hopes to become acupuncture-certified in the next few years.
Outside of work, Dr. Zieve loves exploring new places and discovering unique tea shops. She enjoys hiking, martial arts, and creative pursuits like pottery and photography. She also loves reading, baking, learning new languages, and spending time with family.
