What to Expect

When you are looking for a veterinary care clinic you should be able to count on superior care and excellent service. Exotic Animal Veterinary Center has assembled an expert team of  veterinary professionals to bring you the best possible  healthcare for your pet. We have a state of the art veterinary facility which is clean, comfortable, and efficient. To schedule an appointment give us a call at 626-405-1777 and we will find a time that is convenient for you.

Pets benefit from preventative care and yearly physical exams just like we do. Our veterinarians will perform a complete physical exam, including monitoring weight and temperature, along with listening to the heart and lungs and examining ears and mouths. All exams are tailored according to species. For example, for small mammals, the oral exam is a very important part of the physical. Our doctors can look for any overgrown teeth and malocclusions that have the potential to cause serious pain and the inability to eat properly. For birds, the yearly preventative exam would also look at wing and nail lengths. Our veterinarians would make sure beaks are normal and meeting correctly. Our Preventative Care Wellness Exams start at the head and end at the tail (when there is one) and are specific to each species as well as the individual patient. Husbandry and proper nutrition for your pet is also discussed and reviewed during this time. Of course, there will always be time to address any concerns our clients have about the family members entrusted to our care.

It is extremely helpful to bring with you any medical history you have for your pet. This lets us know about any preexisting conditions and how they may have been treated. It also provides previous weights and temperatures, and any diagnostic testing that may have been done as well as the results. We encourage our clients to share any additional information you may have no matter how trivial it may seem.

Once the exam is completed our veterinarians will discuss their findings with you. They may find a need for diagnostic testing and if the results indicate further exploration, any procedures that are recommended will be discussed in depth with you. Our technicians will demonstrate the best way to administer medications or other treatments your pet may need. A Medical Care Treatment Plan will be created advising you of the costs involved. We will also provide you with a written summary, either at check-out or through email, of any changes you may need to make regarding the care of your pet, a re-cap on how medications prescribed during the visit should be given, and when your pet needs to return for follow up care. Our patients will get a report card at the end of the exam that also summarizes the results of the physical.
